Andrew J. Bernstein is an American author whose ten books have been published in twenty-eight languages and thirty-eight countries. He has been a writer-in-residence at Harvard University, the University of Virginia, the University of California at Berkeley, and the University of Texas at Austin, and was a member of the prestigious PEN International Committee on Freedom of Expression. His awards include the First Annual Frankfurt Peace Prize from the Frankfurt School of Critical Theory, the Adrienne Shelly Award from PEN American Center, and a lifetime achievement award from the New York Literary Council

In 2008 Bernstein completed a book about his experience as a prisoner of war in Afghanistan entitled Prisoner of War. He lives in New York City with his wife and son.
